1723 Stand

  • When Arendal Sound set out to create 1723, we knew there were good reasons why people would want a smaller, monitor style speaker. Correctly realised, such a speaker would be more than ample for even relatively large rooms when used with a subwoofer and of course, by using three across the front of a surround sound system, a perfect tonal match is assured. This is obvious information and yet people in exactly this situation will prefer tower type speakers, simply because they have a cleaner, room friendly look. They will pay for drivers they may not need, just for the aesthetics. And no wonder. Looking around, most stands capable of holding a speaker like The 1723 Monitor effectively, look like refugees from the Brooklyn Road Bridge! There are lots of choices out there and they’re all in one size fits nobody.

Premium Build Quality

Higher density and naturally better damped than MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard), using HDF (High Density Fiberboard) results in a sonically inert cabinet. Internal bracing has been strategically placed to increase overall cabinet strength and limit unwanted panel vibrations that may cause audible colorations.

As a cost efficient solution for fixing speakers to stands, Blu-tak (other temporary adhesives are available!) is a great universal solution. But we had the opportunity for a dedicated solution. The top of the 1723 Stand is covered with a dense polymer pad that covers nearly the entire surface area of the the 1723 Monitor footprint, creating a non-slip surface that provides a secure, well damped interface. That would be enough, but to further enhance the interface, there is a thick plate to the rear that bolts to the 1723 Stand and the 1723 Monitor, locking the two solidly together.

This plate fits with an integrated cable guide and The 1723 Stand has a further guide nearer the bottom, for neat cable management. Again, you’ll find no afterthought zip-ties or sticky cable clips here.

We use no plastic parts.

1723 Monitor + 1723 Stand = 1723 Tower "Mini"

We had an advantage in knowing exactly which speaker we needed to fit in terms of height, angles and footprint, but we didn’t stop there. The simple solution was to create a stand that simply continued the 1723 Monitor all the way to the floor, giving the same appearance as the 1723 Tower. The 1723 Monitor Stand even has the correct 2.5 degrees layback angle built in, to match the angle of the towers.

There are further details that create a really first class mounting platform.

Mass loading

As The 1723 Stand is effectively a hollow, if rather massive box, there was the opportunity to provide mass loading, lowering the system center of gravity and providing a mass energy sink to further damp the entire assembly. However, we did not want to spend hours feeding kilos of damping material (of your choice!) through a tiny hole in the top, like so many offer. We engineered a large diameter aperture and covered it with a machined aluminium, flush mounted cover-plate, that screws down solidly into threaded metal inserts.

Due to this convenient size, we recommend lining the cavity with something like a swing-bin liner, which when pulled through the aperture, will also act as a funnel for the mass loading media - We suggest kiln dried sand, but any dry media will be suitable. A word of warning though - the 1723 Stand will be VERY heavy once filled. We recommend finalizing positional tuning and then filling the stand, unless you want an unscheduled workout.

Spikes Kit

Finally, all of this detail would be for nothing, without a solid platform to couple the 1723 Stand rigidly to the floor, so we included the The 1723 Spikes Kit, dedicated to the purpose of giving 1723 Series loudspeakers a wide, stable and solid footprint, capable of accommodating this level of loading.
